Shumaker, 92 of Salisbury, died August 26, 2007 in Genesis Nursing Home, LaPlata, Md. She was born August 16, 1915 in Salisbury, daughter of the late Lester and Miriam "Nellie" (Reiber) Deal. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Artha "Art" E. Shumaker; one sister, Edna Schrock; four brothers: Earl, Leroy, Glen and Clyde Deal. She is survived by a daughter, Sally A. Younkin and husband, Edward E., Hughesville, Md.; one grandson, Edward A. Younkin and wife, Valerie and a great granddaughter, Andie Younkin, all of Hughesville. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Salisbury. She sang in the choir and was the pianist and organist during WWII. She directed the Youth Choir in Meyersdale and taught Sunday School at both churches for many years. She also served as a member of her church consistory. Pauline believed in helping others through her volunteer work in many organizations. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1946 in both Meyersdale and Salisbury. She served as Unit President, District President, State Music Chairman and Chaplain. Other organizations she belonged to include the Salisbury Hospital Auxiliary, Salisbury Fire Department Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Tub Mill Arts, escort drive for the County Area Agency on Aging and the Salisbury Area Family Center "Adopt a Grandparent" program. She served as pianist for the Salisbury Lions Club for over 20 years. Her love of music resulted in her using her wonderful alto voice at weddings, cantatas, various choruses, and the original Maple Festival Productions. She taught both piano and organ lessons. Friends were received at Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy., Salisbury on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services were conducted on Thursday, August 30, 2007 in St. John's United Church of Christ at 1 p.m. with Rev. J. Matthew Deal officiating. Friends were received at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment in Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery.
