Shumaker, 82, of Meyersdale, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare, Meyersdale. Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Meyersdale, a son of the late Daniel and Emma (Tressler) Shumaker. Also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Brant, and four brothers: Howard, William, Clarence and Fred Shumaker. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, the former Katharyn E. Vought, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, caring neighbors and friends. A veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II. Member of Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale, where he taught Sunday School until six months ago. He was a member of the Zion Church Council for 26 years and a member of the Zion Choir. Mr. Shumaker worked construction for a number of years. He was a former employee of Gnagey's Dairy, and he owned and operated Meyersdale Refuse for 13 years. In his final years of employment, he worked as a security guard for the Berlin Nursing Home. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale, with the Rev. Randall Marburger officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
