  SHUMAKER
  
    Robert D. Shumaker Sr., 73, Garrett Shortcut Road, Berlin, died
  Jan. 11, 1998, at Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate.  Born July 30, 1924,
  in Brothersvalley Township, son of Harry W. and Darl Z. (Fisher)
  Shumaker.  Preceded in death by parents; sister, Ruth Foust, and
  son-in-law, Richard Miller.  Survived by his wife of 50 years, the
  former Freda Jane Rice, and these children: Robert D. Jr., married to
  the former Judith Escherich; Joyce Ann, married to Larry Smith; Amy
  Lynn Miller and fiance Rick Lynch, and Scott Christopher Shumaker,
  all of Berlin; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.  Also
  survived by sisters: Susan Stahl and Nora Suder, both of Berlin; Mary
  Jane Bethel, Newton Falls, Ohio; a nephew, Harry Foust, Berlin, and
  seven nieces.  Lifelong Brothersvalley Township farmer.  Former
  employee of Rice and Schrock Coal Co., Piney Run Golf Course and
  Brothersvalley Township.  He was a warden for 30 years with the Pa.
  Bureau of Forestry.  Member of Beachdale Church of the Brethren,
  where he was a deacon and trustee for many years.  Family will
  receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home,
  Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev.
  Larry G. Black officiating.  Interment, Pleasant Hill Cemetery. 
  Memorial contributions may be given to Beachdale Church of the
  Brethren, 120 Fogletown Road, Berlin, Pa. 15530.
