Shumaker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Shumaker, passed away at his home in Maple Glen, on Thursday evening, November 27th, at 9 o'clock, at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 27 days. Mr. Shumaker was afflicted for several years with cancer of the liver, to which he succumbed after much suffering. He was married twice. His first wife, who preceded him in death in 1892, was Eliza Jane Ferguson. To this union nine children were born. His second wife, who survives, was Amanda Ferguson, sister of the deceased Mrs. Shumaker. To this union six children were born. Mr. Shumaker is survived by twelve of his children. Three, Elmyra, Lloyd and an infant son preceded him in death. The twelve children surviving their father in the order of their birth are: Irvin Shumaker, Jacksonville, Florida; Mrs. T. E. (Mae) Upole, Binghamton, N.Y.; Mrs. J. L. (Olive) Wareham, Mrs. Alice Keller, Mrs. Effie Workman, Clyde Shumaker, Pittsburgh; Milton Shumaker, Chester, Pa.; Mrs. Pearle Ringer, Jennerstown; Hobert Shumaker, Pittsburgh; Dewey Shumaker, on the home farm; Mrs. Stella Brallier, Pittsburgh, and Edwin Shumaker, Kittanning, Pa. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Joseph Ferguson, of New Lexington. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Maple Glen Church of the Brethren, Rev. Guy Wampler in charge. Interment was made in the Maple Glen Cemetery. W. C. Price was the undertaker in charge. Mr. Shumaker was born and reared on the Shumaker farm in Maple Glen, Elk Lick Township, the farm which his grandfather cleared and which has been handed down from generation to generation, and on which he spent his entire life, his son, Dewey, being the present owner. He was a good farmer, a sterling citizen and faithful member of the Church of the Brethren - a man of outstanding character, whose good deeds and exemplary life will remain a fine example to his children and children's children. He was a kind and loving husband and father and a most excellent neighbor and friend. Meyersdale Republican, December 4, 1930
