Born Nov. 15, 1923, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Edward and Della (Poleman) Shunk. Proceeded in death by two sisters, Jane Hutzell, Dorthea Hutzell and one brother, John Hummel. Surviving are his wife, Grace (Otto) Shunk; three sons, Edward Shunk and Donald Shunk, both of Grantsville, Md., Richard Shunk, Salisbury; one daughter, Kathy Shaffer, Meyersdale; one brother-in-law, Elmer Hutzell, Salisbury; seven grandchildren, Alice, Brett, Mark, Angie, Michael, Ryan, Tyler; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Shunk was a retired mechanic for H.J. Beamer, Diehl Ford and Lincoln Contracting. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Mr. Shunk was a member of Meyersdale Lodge 554, F & AM, Meyersdale Royal Arch Masons 272, York Rite, Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and the DAV. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, Md., Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted at Trinity United Church of Christ, Grantsville, on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Philip J. Sorensen officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 214, Grantsville, Md. A Masonic memorial service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. by Meyersdale Lodge 554, F & AM.
