Shunk, passed away on Thursday, April 8, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 15 days. She became suddenly ill at the home of her son, Charles Shunk, in Nesquehoning, Pa., the previous Monday, and was removed to the hospital at once, where she passed away last Thursday at 6:45 p.m. She had suffered stomach ailments for more than three years. She was born October 23, 1863, in Accident, Md., a daughter of John and Laura (Kimmett) Hetrick. In 1882 she married Francis R. Shunk in Berlin. They went to housekeeping in Salisbury and later bought a farm in Greenville Twp., where they reared a large family, remaining there until they were no longer able to care for the farm. Surviving are the following children: Frank Shunk, Rockwood; Harvey H., Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Lee Bird, Somerset; Jack, Berlin; Elmer M., Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Milton H. Meyers, Garrett; Mrs. James Mankemyer, Somerset; Mrs. Earl Baer, Salisbury; Mrs. Carl E. Hostetler, Meyersdale, and Charles L., Nesquehoning; two brothers, John Hetrick, Accident, Md., and Gustave Hetrick, Turtle Creek; three sisters, Mrs. Urias Brown, Salisbury; Mrs. Margaret Wasmuth, Turtle Creek; and Mrs. Harry Hickson, Van Voorhis, Pa. Twenty-nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren also survive. Her husband and three children preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at the Konhaus Funeral Home on Sunday, April 11, by Rev. J. E. Jones, pastor of the Hostetler Church of the Brethren. Interment was made in the Brotherton Cemetery, under the direction of H. R. Konhaus. The following grandchildren served as pall-bearers: Francis Meyers, Carl Bird, Darwin Baer, Elroy Bird, Charles and Frank Shunk. Meyersdale Republican, April 15, 1948
