Shurtz, 53, Rockwood RD 2, died Jan. 30, 1988 in Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown. Born Feb. 12, 1934 in Pittsburgh, son of the late Francis J. and Melva L. (Burns) Shurtz. Survived by his wife, Marianne (Pavlic) Modrak Shurtz of Rockwood RD 2, two sons: Michael Modrak, Rockwood RD 3, and Charles Modrak of Rockwood RD 2; a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Julianne) Cramer, Rockwood RD 2, two sisters: Mrs. Carol Schinkovec and Mrs. Patricia Bracher, both of Pittsburgh; one granddaughter, Kayla Ann Cramer. Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. Self-employed in industrial textile products. Friends were received in the William J. Wood Funeral Home, Rockwood, Sunday 7-9 p.m. and until 9:30 a.m. Monday when the remains were removed to Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church, Meyersdale. Mass of Christian Burial will be recited at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bunn officiating. Interment was held in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Baldwin Borough, Pittsburgh. Arrangements are under the direction of William J. Wood Funeral Home, Rockwood, with Francis Brady supervising. Daily American, February 1, 1988 [S1691]
