Siehl, native of Meyersdale, died Sunday at 5:30 p.m., in Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, where he had been under an oxygen tent since the previous Tuesday in an effort upon the part of the attending physicians to save his life from a heart ailment. Mr. Siehl was born in Meyersdale March 30, 1873, and was a son of Daniel and Arminta (Hare) Siehl, both deceased. Prior to locating in Johnstown he had been engaged in the butchering business at Shaw Mines and in Meyersdale; also, in his earlier years he was employed in and about the mines. October 15, 1913, shortly after locating in Johnstown with his family, Mr. Siehl was appointed a member of the Johnstown police force, serving as a patrolman in the downtown section of that city for a period of 27 years. His health, however, had been impaired after having been struck by an automobile several years ago, so that in recent months he had been assigned to light duty at headquarters. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Barbara (Rowe) Siehl, and these sons and daughters - George Siehl, Jr., at home; William Siehl, Mrs. Nellie Singer, Albert Siehl, Mrs. Irene Hartnett and Matthew Siehl, all of Johnstown. He also leaves 16 grandchildren. Mr. Siehl was a brother of Charles Siehl, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Mary Herring, Mrs. Margaret Gibbons and Mrs. Charles Tressler, all of Meyersdale; Mrs. Charles Tressler, Acosta; Mrs. Annie Wiland and Mrs. Alice Barker, Akron, Ohio. Mr. Siehl was a man of pleasant disposition and gentlemanly demeanor, and his long term of service as a police officer in Johnstown would seem to indicate fidelity and strict attention to the trust and confidence reposed in him. Those in Meyersdale who knew him best will also join heartily in the highest appraisal of his character. He was a member of the Franklin Street Methodist Church of Johnstown; Daniel Webster Council No. 700, Junior Order of United American Mechanics, and the Fraternal Order of Police. The body lay in state at the Gocher Funeral Home, Vine Street, Johnstown, until the time of the funeral on Wednesday at one o'clock p.m., when services were held in the Franklin Street Methodist Church, with the pastor, Rev. William K. Anderson, officiating, assisted by Rev. Sidney V. Carmany, pastor of the First Evangelical Church. Interment was made following the services in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale. Ritualistic services for Mr. Siehl were held Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock in the Gocher Home by Daniel Webster Council, Junior Order United American Mechanics.
