Siehl, 78, died at his home in Somerset last Saturday, July 12, at 3:30 p.m. His physician gave the immediate cause of death as a cerebral hemorrhage. Born March 27, 1869, near Meyersdale, he was the son of Michael and Catherine (Bodes) Siehl. He spent all of his life around Meyersdale and Somerset, and did much to further the development of coal mining in this county. He formerly served as general superintendent of the Supreme-Cherry Run Coal company and Hamler Coal company and was active for 42 years. He was affiliated with a number of other companies which are not now in operation. He was also treasurer of the above named companies and although retired still remained in that office. Mr. Siehl belonged to Hebron Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Meyersdale and was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church, Somerset, where he served as a deacon. Although he was not active in politics, he was greatly interested in the advancement of the community and was always generous with contributions for any welfare projects. He was a devoted husband and father and, while quiet and retiring in disposition, enjoyed a wide circle of friends. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Mary (Smith) Siehl, he is survived by six children - Clarence Siehl of Sligo, Pa.; Mrs. Elmer Mathias, Huey; Mrs. J. E. Campbell, Indiana; Mrs. John W. Gnagey, Somerset; Mrs. Fred Vandervort, Brookville; Mrs. Walter Shaffer, Pottsville; one sister, Mrs. John Mimna, Meyersdale, and two brothers, Clemen Siehl, Aberdeen, Wash., and Louis Siehl, Detroit. A brother George D. Siehl, of Trans-Meyersdale, passed away several months ago. He left 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral rites were held at the family residence, Tuesday, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dr. George L. Roth officiating, followed by interment in Somerset County Memorial Park.
