Mr. Sigmund was born in Griffey, Jan. 4, 1929, and lived most of his life in Stoystown, where he owned a scrap recycling business. Preceded in death by his wife, Joy Y. Sigmund, who died March 3, 2003. He is survived by a son, Michael Sigmund, Greensburg; two daughters, Paula Shaffer and her husband, Rick, Washington; Kathie Phillippi, and her husband, Dale, Dothan, Ala.; eleven grand- children, Bridgette Shaffer, Wendy Shaffer, Matthew Shaffer, Melanie Boyer, Daniel Shaffer, Suzanne Shaffer, Jason Phillippi, Benjamin Phillippi, Marty Sigmund, Jeremy Sigmund and Michael Paul Sigmund; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew Boyer, Emma Boyer, Jason Shaffer, Corey Shaffer, Madison Stafford, Ricki Stafford, Maxwell Davis and Gillian Davis; one sister, Irene Weiner, Pittsburgh. He and his wife, Joy, moved to New Port Richey, after their retirement. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Sigmund was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Elk's Lodge. He enjoyed working, flying his plane and boating. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Somerset. Byrd Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
