Simmons, 71, Somerset, passed on Feb. 22, 2006, at Somerset Hospital. Born June 27, 1934, in Lumpkin, Ga., he is the son of the late Leon and Maggie (Jones) Simmons. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jimmy and Earl Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Melody Simmons, Crescent City, Fla.; children, Jeffrey, Pittsburgh; Valerie Woy and husband, Jason, Somerset; and Tonya and Joshua Simmons, Somerset; brothers, Curtis Markus Simmons, Pittsburgh; and Curt Simmons, Washington, D.C.; companion Kim Weyand, Somerset; grand-children, Jeremiah Eubanks, Tiffany and Joseph Woy, and Elijah and Jamal Simmons; and cousin, Charlie Powell. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired truck driver for the Giant Eagle Grocery Co. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting, as well as spending time with his family. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, with a service to follow at 8 p.m. by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Interment at Restland Memorial Park in Monroeville.
