Donald Simpson, a retired lumberman and farmer, died very suddenly at his home near New Germany Friday night, August 21. He was apparently well, but complained of indigestion after eating his supper. He walked outside the house and didn't return for some time. Mrs. Simpson called to him and not receiving any answer, went in search of him. She found him lying on the ground near the porch, having fallen on a lantern which he carried. The light had gone out and he was dead when she found him about 8:30 o'clock. Mr. Simpson was born in Canada, Sept. 27, 1864. He came to Maryland when he was 18 years of age. He was a lumberman, having worked on the largest sawmills in Garrett County. The last few years he was farming. On February 24, 1887, he married Miss Mary Warnick, who survives him, with ten children, five sons, Earl and Oscar Simpson, Mt. Lake Park; Elmer Simpson, Lonaconing; Forrest Simpson, Philadelphia; George Simpson, Grantsville; five daughters, Mrs. Arthur Broadwater and Mrs. Arch Cook, Lonaconing; Miss Amelda Simpson, Washington, Pa.; Mrs. Lulu Edwards and Miss Ethel Simpson, Grantsville, and 15 grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday morning in the Grantsville Methodist Episcopal Church and was largely attended. Rev. A. C. Bell, the pastor preached a very appropriate sermon. The choir sang several beautiful selections. The pall- bearers were Cecil and Ellis Warnick, Ernest Hoffman, Darius and Austin Broadwater and Elbert Garlitz, nephew, of Mrs. Simpson. Interment in the Grantsville cemetery. Relatives who attended including all the children, Mrs. Simon Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baker, Harry Baker, Miss Bertha Warnick, Mt. Lake Park, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Warnick, Cumberland; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Warnick, Mrs. Elmer Warnick and son and Ellis Warnick, Cumberland; Miss Genevera Wright and Charles Armstrong and friends, Barrelsville, O.; also many friends from Salisbury and New Germany.
