Simpson, 57, of Richards, W.Va., and Grantsville, Md., died Monday at noon in Heiskell Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., where he had been under observation for nine days. Mr. Simpson was born at New Germany, Md., a son of the late Donald and Mary (Warnick) Simpson, and was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 18 years. He was a member of the Grantsville Methodist Church, and of Farrady Post 24, American Legion, Frostburg. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the 79th Division, serving 19 months of which 10 were spent overseas. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Oscar of Richmond, Va., Elmer and Forrest of Nikep, Md., Mrs. Harry C. Edwards of Grantsville, Mrs. Arch Cook and Mrs. Arthur Broadwater of Lonaconing, Mrs. Elmeda Moore of Barnesville, O., and Miss Ethel Simpson of Cumberland. When in Grantsville, Mr. Simpson made his home with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Edwards. His body was brought to their home where it will remain until the hour of the funeral, which will be held in the Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Rev. D. J. Combs, pastor, officiating. The Farrady Post will conduct military rites at the grave in the Grantsville Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, April 15, 1948 GEORGE H. SIMPSON Funeral rites for George H. Simpson, 57, who died from a heart attack, Sunday, April 11, at Heiskell Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., were held at the Grantsville Methodist Church, Wednesday, April 14, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. D. J. Combs, the pastor, officiated using as his discourse the thoughts, "There is but a step beyond me and death" and "The Lord is my shepherd". The church choir sang "Sometime We'll Understand", "In the Hour of Trial" and "Abide with Me". Farrady Post No. 24, American Legion, (Frostburg) ??? ors accorded at the grave in Grantsville Cemetery. The casket bearers were Vernon Dawson, Ray Ramoff, Edwin Kennell, George Filsinger, Irvin Wolford and Harry Saggie. Employees of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Morgantown, served as honorary pallbearers. Members of the firing squad were Olin Spiker, Alfred Drew, James W. Bennett, James Spiker and Charles A. Cole. Colorbearers included Earl R. Miller and Paul Stewart, and taps were sounded by Adam Kalbaugh and William Timmons. Chaplain W. D. Mehrling read the burial service. Mr. Simpson was born at New Germany, Md., a son of the late Donald and Mary (Warnick) Simpson. He spent his boyhood days on his father's farm and was called to the service in World War I, a member of the 79th Division, serving for 19 months, 10 of which were spent overseas. He spent several years around Grantsville doing carpenter work and with the C.C. Company and made many friends in his quiet, unassuming way. When in Grantsville, he made his home with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Edwards, where the body remained until the funeral services, Wednesday. Mr. Simpson was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation at Richards, W.Va., for 18 years. He was a member of the Grantsville Methodist Church and Farraday Post 24, American Legion, Frostburg, Md. The many floral tributes were expressions of his many friends.
