All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ MARY WARNICK SIMPSON Garrett County, Maryland Mary Warnick Simpson, 78, widow of the late Donald Simpson, died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Edwards, with whom she resided, following a four week period of critical illness and several years of ill health. Mrs. Simpson was a native of New Germany and life-long resident of Garrett County. She was well-known and, with her kindly disposition, friendliness, and beautiful character, was greatly loved. She was the daughter of Ashford and Iantha Michael Warnick. Her husband preceded her in death by eleven years. Mrs. Simpson was an active member of the Grantsville Methodist Church and a member of the Ladies Aid Society. Besides Mrs. Edwards she is survived by four other daughters: Mrs. Arthur Broadwater, and Mrs. Arch Cook, Lonaconing; Mrs. Kenneth Moone, Barnesville, Ohio; and Miss Ethel Simpson of Grantsville. She is also survived by four sons, Oscar Simpson, Deer Park; George Simpson, Richards, W.Va.; Elmer Simpson, Lonaconing, and Forrest Simpson, Pekin, Md. Sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Two sons preceded her in death. Mrs. Simpson leaves three sisters and three brothers. They are Mrs. Clara Broadwater, Salisbury, Pa., Mrs. Effie Garlitz, Cresaptown; and Miss Bertha Warnick, Mt. Lake Park; Arthur C. Warnick, Oakland; John H. Warnick, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Horace R. Warnick, Cumberland. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in the Grantsville Methodist Church with Rev. V. R. Gillum, pastor, officiating. The Methodist choir sang, "My Jesus as Thou Wilt", "At the End of the Road" and "Sometimes We'll Understand." Flowerbearers were the following grandchildren, Grace Wilda Simpson, Flora Cook, Rita Edwards, Lola Broadwater, Mrs. Cecil Edwards and Donald Cook. Pallbearers were the grandsons, Robert and Dale Simpson, Archie Cook, Cecil Edwards, Ray Broadwater, and Frank Simpson. All of Mrs. Simpson's children and brothers and sisters came to attend the services. Other relatives and friends who came from a distance to pay their last respects were Miss Lucille Warnick, Oakland; Mrs. Harry Fields and Mrs. Melva Warnick, Piedmont, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baker, and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker and children, Mrs. John Wrightsman, and son, Bobby, Deer Creek; Hermas Garlitz, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Warnick, and Mrs. Elmer Broadwater, Cresaptown; Lee Fairgrieve, Moscow, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Austin Broadwater and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Darius Broadwater and son, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hoffman, Salisbury, Pa.; Miss Marie Miller, Cumberland; Mr. and Mrs. Owen Broadwater, Lonaconing; Mrs. Philip Vinci, Mrs. Ivan Purdy and Mrs. Richard Keys, Pekin, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Broadwater and daughter, Mrs. Virginia Broadwater, Barton, Md; Mr. and Mrs. John Glotfelty, Mr. and Mrs. Arch Glotfelty, and Mrs. Beulah Walton, McHenry, Md.
