Sincell, 77, editor and publisher of the Oakland Republican, Garrett County's only newspaper, for 56 years, died last Friday at his home, where he had been confined by illness since last September. He became seriously ill two weeks ago. Mr. Sincell, who was well known in Garrett and Allegany Counties was actively engaged in worthy projects throughout Garrett County, a number of years prior to becoming incapacitated owing to sickness. He was born, July 11, 1869, in Frederick, Md., a son of the late Charles H. and Leah (Richardson) Sincell. He moved to Oakland in his youth and as a young man was employed in newspaper offices in Preston County, W.Va., at Terra Alta and Kingwood. Later he worked for the late Capt. James A. Havden, founder and owner of the Oakland Republican. He purchased the paper and issued his first edition on his 21st birthday in 1890. On October 16, 1895, he married the former Miss Lilliam B. Morris, of Kingwood, W.Va., and established his home in Oakland. Mr. Sincell was a member of Oakland Lodge No. 192, R. F. and A. M., and Garrett Lodge No. 113, Knights of Pythias. He belonged to the Lutheran Church and held membership in the Oakland Rotary Club at one time. Surviving are his wife, two sons, C. Morris Sincell of Fairmont, W.Va., and Donald R. Sincell, of Oakland, assistant editor of The Republican; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Holenbeck of Wilkinsburg, Pa., and Mrs. Robert Ruckert of Oakland; three brothers, Bert Sincell of Clarksburg, W.Va.; Harry C. Sincell, Oakland, and George Sincell, Pittsburgh, and two sisters, Mrs. Olin F. Durst and Mrs. Gertrude S. Matheney, widow of Harry W. Matheney, both of Cumberland. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the home by Rev. George D. Birk, pastor of Oakland Lutheran Church. Interment in Oakland Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 16, 1947
