"Spike" Singer, 80, Stuart Street, Berlin, died Jan. 5, 1999, at Windber Medical Center. Born Aug. 6, 1918, in Pittsburgh, son of William and Marion (Steen) Singer. Preceded in death by parents; sisters Helen M. Gillman and Betty Burns-Miller; brothers Clarence, David, Charles, William, Arnold and Harry. Survived by wife of 43 years, Madeline (Hillegas) Costello-Singer, Berlin; son, Robert Vitalie, married to Margie, Cherry Hill, N.J.; stepsons, Marlin Costello, married to Laura Hordubay, Fairhope, and Miles Ken Costello, married to Delores Rowe, Norwood; 3 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and sister, Marion "Snook" Lovekin, Oviedo, Fla. Walter retired after 27 years of service from Goodyear Atomic in Waverly, Ohio, where he worked as an electrician. World War II Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater. Lifetime member and past post commander of American Legion Post 142 in Waverly, Ohio, and a member of Berlin American Legion Post 445. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Rev.
