Sipe of Somerset died recently in the National Soldier's Home, at Hampton, Va., to which he was admitted early in January. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War. His health had been impaired for a number of years, and he was very ill at the time of his removal to the Soldiers' Home. It was necessary to make the long journey in an ambulance. His condition grew worse soon after he entered the Home. Lawrence M. Sipe was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Sipe, having been born at Sipesville about 54 years ago, and locating in Somerset with his parents when a mere lad. After graduating from the Somerset High School, he became associated with his father and brother, Walter, in the wholesale tobacco business. Mr. Sipe was an accomplished musician, playing various instruments in Somerset bands and orchestras. His wife, the former Miss Alice Cook, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jonas M. Cook, died many years ago. Surviving children are: Carl Sipe, of Buffalo, N.Y.; Allen Sipe, of Rochester, N.Y.; Henry Sipe, of Bridgewater, Va., and Miss Dorothy Sipe, a teacher in the Somerset schools. Walter Sipe, well known tobacconist is a surviving brother, and Mrs. Robert S. Meyers, is a surviving sister. Funeral services were conducted at the home of his sister, Mrs. Meyers, in Somerset, in charge of the Rev. Dr. I. Hess Wagner, of Trinity Lutheran Church, assisted by the Rev. J. F. Messenger, pastor of the Christian Church. Burial was in Husband Cemetery in charge of Undertaker Charles R. Hauger. Meyersdale Republican, January 21, 1932
