All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ MICHAEL SIPE Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Sipe Hotel at Jenners, for Michael Sipe, aged 75, proprietor of the Sipe Hotel, who died Saturday evening at the Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, following a long illness of stomach trouble. Rev. Lewis Foltz, pastor of the Stoyestown Lutheran Church, officiated. Interment was in the United Brethren Church Cemetery at Jenners Cross Roads. Mr. Sipe had been the proprietor of the Sipe Hotel for the last 25 years. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sipe and was born at Sipesville. Many years ago he located in Boswell, where he was engaged in farming until he purchased the hotel. Mr. Sipe was known to many harness racing enthusiasts throughout the eastern part of the country. He always displayed a keen interest in race horses and for many years owned a stable of horses, many of which won purses at Pennsylvania fairs. He also owned the site of the old Jenner Fairgrounds. Surviving are his wife and four sisters: Mrs. Ephraim Speicher, of Somerset; Mrs. Edward Korns and Mrs. George Schmucker, both of Johnstown, and Mrs. Frank Blough, of Jenner Cross Roads.
