Sipple, 85, Phoenixville, Pa., departed this life at Phoenixville Manor on March 27, 1999. Born July 20, 1913, in Elk Lick Township, daughter of the late Lloyd Calvin Sipple and Lydia Susan (Housel) Sipple. Also preceded in death by sisters, Almeda (Sipple) Cecil and Miriam (Sipple) Hart and brother, Clay Sipple. Survived by sister, Rosella (Sipple) Niner, Salisbury; brothers, Paul Sipple and wife, Etta, Doylestown, Nyle Sipple and wife, Lena, Grantsville, Md.; niece, Sherlda (Sipple) Jenkins, Waterford, MI.; nephews, Marvin Cecil and wife, Gloria, Akron, Ohio, Edgar Niner and wife Elizabeth, Ormond Beach, Fla., Alvin Niner, Jr., and wife, Leona, Grantsville, Md., and Robert Bittinger and wife, Sue, Grantsville, Md.; also several great-nieces and great-nephews. She graduated from Salisbury High School in 1930, and from Nurses Training at Church Home and Infirmary, Baltimore, Md., Medical Field Service School and Nursing Administration, San Antonio, Texas and attended Dickinson College, Carlisle. She joined the Army Nurse Corps, on July 1, 1941, before Pearl Harbor, from which she retired after 27 years with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. She served in Germany during post-World War II, in Japan during the Korean War and also at many posts throughout the United States. Her main mission in life was to care for the young men and women wounded while fighting for our freedom either to nurse them back to health or help to make life more meaningful for them. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Phoenixville, the Women's Guild of that church, Army Nurse Corps Association for Retired Members, Local Retired Officer's Association, American Legion and AARP. At Blanche's request, there will be no viewing. Private funeral services will be held at the Newman Funeral Homes, PA., Grantsville, Md., at 7 p.m., Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. David Fetter, assisted by the Rev. Raymond Brown. Interment Salisbury Cemetery, with military rites provided by Salisbury area veteran's service organizations. Daily American, March 29, 1999 [S1841]
