She was born November 21, 1936 in Meyersdale, daughter of the late Oscar and Rhea Horning Burt. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Slack, and two brothers: William Burt and Daniel Burt. She was a 1954 graduate of Meyersdale Joint High. Emelie was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church near Boonsboro, where she loved going to church and was devoted to the Lord. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and sister-in-law, and had many wonderful neighbors and friends. Emelie is survived by her husband, Larry P. Slack Sr., with whom she would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 12, 2008; three children: Larry P. Slack Jr. and Rhea K. Slack, both of Keedysville, and Elmer Lee Slack and wife, Kim, Gaithersburg, MD; one brother, Harold L. Burt and wife, Bessie, Meyersdale; sister-in-law, Mary Burt, Hagerstown, MD; five grandchildren: Justin, Carly, Kristina, Kelly and Carrie Slack; and daughter-in-law, Connie, and daughters, Chelsea and Danielle. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, located at the corner of Mr. Carmel Church Road at Rt. 67 near Boonsboro. The Rev. Mark Waldron will officiate. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations and remembrances may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Mark Waldron, 4950 Wigville Road, Thurmont, MD 21788. Arrangements are by Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
