Born June 2, 1924 in Macdonaldton, the son of Michael and Mary (Swanik) Slifco. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank, John, George, and Steve, and sisters Kathryn Rezak, Mary Ross, Helen Burket, Stella Stapinsky and Anna Tataleba. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Bowser Slifco; children, Daniel and fiancee Kathy Friedline, Friedens; Gloria and fiance [sic] Wade Armstrong, Somerset; Debra, married to Gary Baker, Somerset; Nick Jr., married to the former Janice Lohr, Meyersdale; Joseph, married to the former Gwen Ernest, Berlin; Harley (Pete), married to the former Dotty Fochtman, Manns Choice, and Michael and wife Susan, of Hastings; 14 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Sue Mack, Cleveland, Ohio, and a brother, Charles, Macdonaldton. Member, former deacon and former bus driver at Bible Baptist Church, Somerset. He was a coal miner for 55 years, working for Scurfield Coal Co., of Berlin, for his last 30 years before retiring. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Pastor Dale Lyzbicki officiating.
