Born Dec. 7, 1930, in Cove, Md., the son of the late Henry and Scyntha ( Frazee) Smearman. Preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Floyd. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Matilda Marie (Prinkey) Smearman; one son, David William Smearman and wife, Charlotte, Friendsville, Md.; one daughter, Catherine Vernice Coddington, and husband, Dale, Friendsville, Md.; three brothers, Troy Smearman, Friendsville, Md., Ralph Smearman and wife, Roberta, Eastlake, Ohio, Reed Smearman and wife, Jean, Rome, Ohio; one sister, Helen Hoover and husband, James, Cumberland, Md.; one sister-in-law, Doris Smearman, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jason, Steven and Jarod Coddington, Sarah (Coddington) Meyers and husband, Chris, David Jr., Henry, Hannah and Cynthia Smearman; and four great-grandchildren, Steven L. Coddington, Todd Ethan Meyers, Tiffany L. Coddington and Shelby L. Coddington. Mr. Smearman was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Addison. He retired from Harbison-Walker Refractories, Grantsville, Md., after 28 years service as a brickmaker. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. He was also a 50+ year member of Woodmen of the World, Camp 45, Friendsville, Md. Friends were received Sunday at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, Md. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Glenn Foster officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Addison Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
