SMEARMAN George William Smearman, 95, of RD 1, Mount Savage, MD. died Saturday, July 21, 1990, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, MD. Born May 20, 1895, in Cove, MD, he was the son of the late William and Magdelena (Bach) Smearman. His wife, Rose C. (Jefferys) Smearman, died in 1969. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Smearman was a retired dairy farmer, having worked at the Henckel Dairy Farm. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cumberland, Md. and the American Legion post in Mount Savage, Md. Surviving are two sons, William J. Smearman, Wellersburg; and George E. Smearman, Mount Savage, MD; three daughters, Wilma C. Delbrook and Edna May Lepley, both of Mount Savage, MD; and Anna M. Koback, Bethesda, MD; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, MD. Services were conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod), Cove, MD, Monday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Ray Rogers. Interment, church cemetery. Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Roger Smearman, Joseph Smearman, Jeffrey Smearman, Robert Lepley, Frank Lease and Blair Brooke. The Republic, July 26, 1990 [S1963]
