She had been ill for about two weeks. Her husband, Henry Smearman, died in December 1918. She was born in Salisbury on October 8, 1874, a daughter of Ormada (Welfley) and Reuben Scott Johns. She spent her life there and was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was 74 years and 24 days old at her passing. She is survived by one son, Earl Smearman, Detroit, Mich.; four brothers - Albert E. Johns and Walter S. Johns, Salisbury; William Harvey Johns, Cleveland, O., and Arthur W. Johns, Denver, Colo., and two sisters - Mrs. Arminta Lenhart, Youngstown, O., and Mrs. Myrtle May Alden, Cleveland, O. Funeral services were conducted in the Thomas Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m., Sunday. Her pastor, the Rev. George E. Bowersox Jr., officiated. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, November 25, 1948
