Smiley, 81, of Berlin died November 30, 2006 at the Golden Living Center, Meyersdale. Born August 30, 1925 in Summit Twp., a son of the late Earl and Ellen (Schaeffer) Smiley. Preceded in death by son, Thomas and brother, Miles. Survived by his widow, Patricia (Haer) Smiley and these children: Jeff Smiley and wife Jane, Berlin; Joyce Waydo and husband Mike, Somerset; and Julie Richter and husband Carl, Meyersdale; and these grandchildren: Jeff Allen, Jonathan Smiley and wife Jennifer (Stahl); Joel Smiley and wife Stephanie (Athey); Brian and Christopher Waydo; Jeremy, Brett, and Lance Corporal Chad Bittner. Also survived by these great-grandchildren: Isaac and Makenna Bittner; Nicole and Megan Smiley. He is also survived by brother, James Smiley, Baltimore, MD. and sisters, Marian Hepler, Reading and Mary Thomas, Mason, Ohio. He was a veteran of WWII, retired ceramic tile setter, an avid deer hunter, and a horse shoe pitcher enthusiast. A private funeral service was held Thursday, November 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home with Pastor John Harmon officiating. A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church in Berlin at a later date. Arrangements in charge of the M.
