  Ellen K. Smiley, 88, 405 Green Terrace, Reading, formerly of Somerset
  area, died Sept. 8, 1985, at Community General Hospital, Reading. 
  Born Sept. 10, 1896, in Wernersville, Pa., daughter of the late
  Samuel and Amanda (Koch) Schaeffer.  Preceded in death by her
  husband, Earl W., Dec. 23, 1971.  Survived by these children: Miles
  E. of Reading, with whom she resided; Blaine H. of Berlin; James S.
  of Baltimore, Md.; Elizabeth M., wife of Ralph Snyder, Earlville,
  Pa.; Marian E., wife of Charles H. Hepler Jr., Reading; and Mary P.,
  wife of Floyd Thomas, Mason, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 26
  great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  Also a
  sister, Agnes, wife of Irwin Sweigart; and a brother, William
  Schaeffer, both of Wernersville.  Arrangements in charge of Theo. C.
  Auman Inc., Reading, where services will be held Wednesday at 9
  a.m.  Graveside viewing and services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Somerset
  County Memorial Park, the Rev. Ronald D. Moss officiating.
