  Alfred R. Smith, 42, Somerset RD 7, died March 15, 1986, at
  residence.  Born Jan. 10, 1944, in Pittsburgh, son of late Carl Smith
  and Ellen (Knepshield) Schweitzer.  Preceded in death by father. 
  Survived by mother and stepfather, Frank and Ellen Schweitzer,
  Pittsburgh; wife of 21 years, former Linda Van Kirk; three children:
  Virginia L., Nancy E. and Thomas, all at home.  Brother of: Carl E.
  Smith, Pleasant Hills, Pittsburgh; C. Allen Smith, South Park,
  Pittsburgh; stepbrothers: J. William Sweitzer, San Antonio, Texas;
  Frank Sweitzer Jr., Tucson, Ariz.; two stepsisters: Mrs. Susan
  Vandervourt, Pittsburgh; and Mrs. Mary Ann Foran, Stillwater, Okla. 
  Member of St. Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, Somerset;
  Somerset Lodge 358, F&AM; and Samuel S. Crouse Post 181, American
  Legion, Somerset.  Vietnam veteran of U.S. Army.  Employed by Greater
  Johnstown Vo-Tech as an instructor.  Graduate of Culinary Institute of
  America, Hyde Park, N.Y.  Graduate of University of Pittsburgh. 
  Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at late
  residence in Husband.  Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St.
  Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, Father Terry Johnson
  officiating.  Interment, Weller Cemetery.  Arrangements are under
  direction of Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home.  Viewing at church one
  hour prior to service.  Memorials may be given to American Cancer
  Society and St. Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church.
