  Alverda M. Smith, 89, Berlin, died Oct. 20, 2005, at St. Clair Hospital,
  Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 27, 1916, in Allegheny Township, daughter of Alan and
  Susan (Hostetler) Brick. Preceded in death by parents; husband, James M. Smith;
  brothers, Milton and Sherman Brick; and sisters, Marion McKinney and Grace
  Sarver. Survived by a daughter D. Jean married to Charles A. Caton, Carnegie;
  grandchildren, Debbie Eles Berdi and husband, Peter; Beth Malarkey and husband,
  James; and James Caton and wife, Patricia; and great-grandchildren, Hannah,
  Cameron, Jimmy and Erika. Member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin.
  Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Deaner
  Funeral Home, Berlin, where a service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Rev.
  James Hughes and the Rev. Ralph Landis officiating. Interment Berlin IOOF
  Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity UCC, Berlin, PA 15530.
