Mrs. Smith, who was born on May 12, 1878, was the daughter of the late William and Matilda (Burkett) Barnhart. Surviving are the following children: Robert Smith, Mrs. Madeline Hunter, Central City; Mrs. Mary Strawn and Mrs. Harold Berkey, Berlin; Milton Smith, Mrs. Obie Ryman, Carl Smith, and George Smith, Acosta; Mrs. Cal Hoyman, Garrett; James Smith, Navy, destination unknown. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norman and Joseph Barnhart, both of Meyersdale; and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Swindell and Mrs. George Ohler, the former of Meyersdale, the latter of Dunlo. Brief funeral services were held at the deceased's home at 607 Second Street, Meyersdale, at 2:30 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, after which regular services were held in the Amity Evangelical and Reformed Church, Rev. Nelson C. Brown, pastor, was in charge. Interment was made in Union Cemetery under the direction of H. R. Konhaus, local mortician. Meyersdale Republican, May 21, 1942
