  Betty J. Smith, 58, Berlin RD 4, died Oct. 8, 1988 at Somerset
  Community Hospital.  Born March 20, 1930 in Knoxville, Tenn. 
  Daughter of Lucy (Chesney) Varnell and the late Raymond Varnell. 
  Preceded in death by father, daughter, Jackie, brother Billie and one
  grandson.  Survived by her husband, Jack Smith and these children:
  Peggy Meyers, Crytal [sic] Pine, Fla.; Karen Hoffman, Friedens RD 2;
  Carol Kahala, Fairhope RD 1; Wendi Keyser, Friedens RD 2; Phillip R.
  Somerset RD 8; and R. Paul, Somerset; 15 grandchildren.  These
  brothers and sisters: Virginia Farrow, Holly Russell, Nancy
  Robertson, Ray, Jimmy, Carroll, and David, all from Knoxville, Tenn.,
  and Tommy, Kennesaw, Ga.  Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m.
  today (Monday), 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Robert H.
  Halverson Funeral Home, where service will be conducted Wednesday at
  10:30 a.m. Rev. Larry R. Weigle officiating.  Interment in Listie
  Cemetery.
