Smith, 49, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Somerset, died Feb. 15, 1974, in Harrisburg Hospital. Born Feb. 15, 1925, in Jerome a son of Mrs. Bessie Carr of Somerset RD 2, and the late Fred J. Smith. Survived by his widow, the former Sara Jane Long, these children: Jeffrey of Carlisle; Kathy and David, both at home; these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jason (Goldie) Charlton of Berlin; Mrs. Mary Sager of Somerset; Burley R. of Laurel, Md.; Robert L. of Chardon, Ohio; Mrs. Floyd (Edith) Dove, Mrs. George (Thelma) Dick, both of Keyser, W.Va.; and Mrs. James (Hazel) Canavan of Somerset RD 2. Member of First Christian Church, Somerset, veteran of U.S. Navy and World War II, member of Teamsters, Local 776, and employed by IML Truck Line. Friends received in the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p,m. with the Rev. Paul Weber officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
