   March 3, 1931 - May 1, 2005 

    Burdette W. Smith, 74, of Monroeville, formerly of Meyersdale, died Sunday,
  May 1, 2005, at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. 
    Born March 3, 1931, in Northampton Twp., he was a son of the late Merle E.
  and Emma (Miller) Smith. 
    He was also preceded in death by a daughter Susan. 
    He was a devoted husband of Margaret (Habel) Smith; and beloved father of:
  Roxanne, wife of Dave Benec, Arlington, Texas; Barbara, wife of C.J. Kuehn,
  Monroeville; and Steven Smith Jr., and his wife Bernadette, North Huntingdon.
  He was beloved grandfather of: Nicole, Christopher, Steven Jr., Jason, Sarah,
  Matthew, and Joanna. He was a sister of: Marlene Swindell, of Florida; and
  Carol, wife of Keith Winters, Dallas, Ga. 
    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Korean War.  A staff sergeant with the
  45th. Inf. Div., 5th. R.C.T., Easy Co. He participated in two noteworthy
  battles: Sandbag Castle and Christmas Hill, in 1953. He was a member of
  American Legion Post 112 Meyersdale, and VFW Post 8430 East McKeesport. He was
  a long standing member of Carpenters Local 230 in Pittsburgh. 
    Friends were received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home
  Meyersdale, where service was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev.
  William G. Triebe officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
