He was born in Meyersdale, and was a son of the late Charles Smith and Mary Jane (Miller) Smith. He was a retired brakeman from the B&O and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. His first wife, Ivadene (Thompson) Smith, preceded him in death in 1968. He is survived by his second wife, Erdie Pauline (Shroyer) Smith; one son, Jack Smith, Meyersdale; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Schrock, Grosse Ile, Mich.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Verna Bosley, RD 8, Knob Road, city, and Mrs. Jill Wagner, city; two step-sons, Richard Rouzer, Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Eugene Rouzer, RD 3, Bedford Road; one brother, Charles Smith, Somerset; five grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence where services were conducted in the funeral home residence by the Rev. Richard E. Manning, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment was in Lybarger Lutheran Cemetery, Bedford County. The Republic, April 7, 1983 [S2047]
