Smith, 65, of Berlin, died at her home very suddenly Friday, May 27. She was the eldest daughter of William and Emma (Gindelsperger) Cassel, and was born in Berlin September 2, 1883. She was the widow of Howard Smith, who died in 1910. Surviving are a son and three daughters: Orie Smith of Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. Thomas Holmes, Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Frank Boucher, Pittsburgh; and Miss Charlotte Smith, Waco, Texas. Also surviving are these brothers and sisters: Harry Cassel, Berlin; John Cassel, Pittsburgh; Charles Cassel, New York City; Allen Cassel, Akron, O.; Mrs. Mabel Davis, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Harvey Miller, Berlin. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Pittsburgh, the Rebekah Lodge and the Woman's Auxiliaries of the American Legion and Firemen of Berlin. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held Monday, May 30, at 2 o'clock at the Johnson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert S. Nagle, officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, June 2, 1949
