Born Dec. 28, 1941, in Derry, a son of Kenneth and Veronica (Slaninko) Smith. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by wife, the former Mary Ann Messina, to whom he was married for 35 years, and daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey E. (Tracy) O'Brien, Markleton. Brother of: B. Kenneth Smith, Latrobe; Robert Smith, Medford Lakes, N.J.; Mrs. James (Delores) Zitt, Derry; and Mrs. Larry (Patricia) Dunlap, Vorhees, N.J. Member of: St. Peter's Catholic Church. A 1960 graduate of Derry High School, and 1965 BS graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Civics and career education teacher at Somerset Junior High School for 27 years. Prior to that taught 6 years at Lakewood N.J. High School. Somerset Borough councilman for 19 years and had been president. Member of Somerset Lions Club, basketball coach for Somerset junior and senior high school for 5 years, department coordinator in social studies at Somerset High School. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Somerset, with Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli celebrant. Commital, Somerset County Memorial Park.
