Smith, 82, Central City, formerly of Lambert Mountain, died April 1, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 24, 1925, the son of Walter and Elmira (Kister) Smith. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Vickie; brothers, Walter, Gilson, Merle and Elwood; sisters, Evelyn and Doris. Survived by children, Aletta (Eric) Vasquez, Somerset, Lizzie (Robbie) Robison, Somerset, Glenda Jo "Jody" Marko, Central City; granddaughter, Denise (Dan) Kroon, Somerset, whom Vickie and Glenn raised; grandchildren, Denise, Robbie, Becky, Allyson, Christen, Heather and Buffy; great-grandchildren, Brett, Danielle, Emily, Devon, Harley, Alexis, Brandon and Johnnie. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Cathy Lynn, Christine and Nancy. U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A retired employee of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. A former UMWA coal miner, member of the VFW and an avid outdoorsman and motorcycle lover. Friends received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City. Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Reynolds and Fr. Mascherino officiating. Committal, Mizpah Cemetery.
