Smith, 89, Friedens RD 2, died Nov. 4, 1987, at Siemon's Lakeview Manor Estate, Somerset. Born Aug. 12, 1898, in Bedford County, son of Abraham and Nancy Jane (Bowser) Smith. Preceded in death by parents; his wife, the former Ruth E. Landis, who died Nov. 10, 1984; sisters: Verna Crissey, Rachel Lloyd and Dora Manges; brothers: Lloyd and Milton. Survived by daughters: Marian, widow of Garner Pritz, Berlin; LaVerne, widow of William Page, Shanksville; and Mrs. Derwood (Lois) Hinebaugh, Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Life-time carpenter, member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville; Somerset Lodge 358 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; Walker Cemetery Association; and served on the authority board of Shanksville-Stonycreek School. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Horst H. Bandle officiating.
