Born Nov. 8, 1891, in Brothersvalley Township. Son of George Washington and Mary (Hauger) Smith. Preceded in death by parents; sisters: Nellie Krause, Elmira Walker, Belle Lichty and Rose Lybarger. Brothers: Howard, Guy, Marling and Claude. Survived by wife of 53 years, the former Mildred Hastings; a daughter, Mrs. James Kenneth (Joyce) Holman, Wilmington, Del., and grandchildren, Julie Ann and James Kenneth Jr. Retired in 1963 after nearly 40 years as highway construction superintendent for Central Pennsylvania Quarry, Stripping and Construction Co. Member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin; Meyersdale Lodge 554, F.& A.M.; Williamsport Consistory and a 58-year member of Cyprus Temple Shrine, Albany, N.Y. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Melvin A. Kirk officiating.
