  MRS. CLAUDE W. SMITH SR.
    
    Mrs. Irene J. Smith, 77, Berlin RD 4, died Sept. 14, 1974, in
  Meyersdale Community Hospital.  Born in Somerset County, June 12,
  1897, she was a daughter of the late Zacharias and Jane (Bridegum)
  Deeter.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Claude W. Jr., in 1972, and a
  brother, Ferris.
    Surviving are her husband, Claude W. Smith Sr., Berlin RD 4; a
  grandson, George, a great-grandson; and two brothers, Elkins Deeter
  of Berlin, and Devon of Baltimore, Md.
    She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the American
  Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, Valley Grange and the Second Society of
  Farm Women.
    Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon in Johnson and Son
  Funeral Home, Berlin, with Rev. George E. Buechner officiating. 
  Interment in IOOF Cemetery, Berlin.
