Born in Meyersdale on March 8, 1877, the deceased was a son of Christopher and Elizabeth (Hensell) Smith. He had been in failing health for some time, suffering from a heart condition. In addition to his widow, Mrs. Margaret (Critchfield) Smith, he leaves these children: Emmet G., McKees Rocks; Carl C., at home; Allen R., Bedford; Mrs. Robert Shipe, Cumberland, Md., and Mrs. Virgin Armstrong, Grafton, W.Va. Also surviving are four grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: William A. Smith, Meyersdale; Calvin L. Smith, Friedens; Ray J. Smith, Connellsville; Mrs. Elma Gnagey, Meyersdale; Mrs. Minnie James, Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Pearl Mull, Meyersdale, and Mrs. Clara Orak, Akron, O. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Bethel Methodist Church in Centerville, Bedford County. Rev. Austin officiated. Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Meyersdale, under the direction of W. C. Price & Son, local morticians. Meyersdale Republican, July 17, 1941
