Smith was brought here Monday from Cleveland, O., and taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Joseph F. Reich, where it lay in state until Tuesday morning, at 10 o'clock, when funeral services were conducted in SS. Philip and James' Catholic Church by the pastor, Father Howard T. Miller, with interment in the church cemetery under the direction of R. Reich & Son, local morticians, assisted by Funeral Director Charles J. Reich, of Blairsville. James M. Smith was the eldest son of Mark M. and Mary (Cronley) Smith, both deceased, and was born in Meyersdale in the year 1884. He was well known and highly esteemed by the older residents of this community, who knew him best. A good many years ago he located in Cleveland, Ohio, where he held a lucrative position in the finishing department of one of the largest toy manufacturing concerns in the United States. He was married, his wife having passed away several years ago. Surviving are four sisters: Mrs. Laura Reich, of Meyersdale, mentioned above, and the Misses Mary and Sara, of Latrobe, and Leota Smith, R.N., of Pottsville. A brother, Blair Smith, and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Radebaugh, preceded their brother in death. Meyersdale Republican, May 14, 1942
