Smith, 88, 1475 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, died July 17, 2004, at Brethren Village, Lancaster, after a short illness. Born May 23, 1916, in Somerset, son of the late James M. and Amy Shumaker. Also preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Swiger and Dorothea Ford. Survived by wife, Dorothy L. (Phillippi) Smith, with whom he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Dec. 20, 2003; daughter, Amy J. Smith, married to Michael J. Youndt, Morgantown and one granddaughter. He was a machine operator for Howmet Building Products, Lancaster, now Alcoa, for 23 years before retiring in 1979. He attended Central Manor Church of God. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Somerset Veteran's of Foreign War. He enjoyed hunting camping and wood working. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Brethren Village. Memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster. The Rev. Levi J. Zeigler officiating.
