  MERLE E. SMITH
  
    Merle E. Smith, 77, of Meyersdale, died June 18, 1983, in
  Meyersdale Community Hospital.
    He was born Jan. 27, 1906, in Allegheny Township, a son of the late
  Charles and Flora (Coughenour) Smith.
    He is survived by his wife, the former Emma Miller, and these
  children: Burdette of Monroeville; Mrs. Marlene Swindell and Mrs.
  Carol Winters, both of Meyersdale; also seven grandchildren and two
  great-grandchildren.
    He was a brother of Robert S. and Ray, both of Berlin; Stewart G.,
  Cincinnati, Ohio; Dale W., of Buena Vista, Pa.; Mrs. Annie Webreck
  and Mrs. Marion Coughenour, both of Glencoe; Mrs. Orlene Raupach of
  Somerset; and Mrs. Betty Bittner of North Versailles.  He was a
  member of the Berlin Fife and Drum Corps and the Carpenters Local
  1048 of McKeesport.
    Friends were received at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where
  services were conducted with the Rev. Lloyd Wilson.  Interment, Union
  Cemetery.
