Smith, 56, veteran of World War I, died at his home in Somerset at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, October 24, after two weeks of illness, due to a heart condition. He was the youngest son of the late George and Catherine (Ankeny) Smith. He was born in Meyersdale, where he lived till young manhood, when he entered the service of his country in 1918 and served overseas. On Oct. 24, 1920, he was united in marriage to Miss Lulu Kemp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kemp of Somerset. To this union were born two children, Betty Lorene and Ralph K., who, with the widow, survive. He is also survived by two brothers: Virgil E. Smith of Coatesville, and Nevin B. Smith of Boswell, and by two sisters: Mrs. Martha Eisentrout, Salisbury, and Mrs. Catherine Brown, Meyersdale. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. George Roth of St. Paul's Reformed Church, Somerset. Interment in Memorial Park, Somerset, under the direction of the Hauger Funeral Home. His sister, Mrs. Brown, was unable to attend the obsequies of her brother due to the fact that she has been confined to her room for five weeks on account of a coronary condition.
