Smith, 65, of Main Street, Manns Choice, died July 30, 2003 at UPMC Bedford Memorial, Snake Spring Township. Born in Confluence on Sunday, July 3, 1938, he was the son of the late Harvey A. Smith and Clema (Romesburg) Smith who survives him of Confluence. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Smith. He was the husband of Carol A. (Fisher) Smith, whom he married on January 27, 1964. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother and daughter, Kerry S., wife of Michael Whitcomb, Bedford; sister, Betty, wife of John Vogel, Fort Hill; brother, Clyde, husband of Donna Smith, Confluence; sister, Debbie, wife of Gregory Wagner, St. Paul; also survived by two grandchildren: Karlee and Brody. He retired as an art teacher at Chestnut Ridge High School after 31 years. He received a bachelor's degree in art education from Indiana State College and Penn State University. He was affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene, Confluence. He was the founder of "Dick & the Countdowns" band, a life member of the Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company; an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and ginseng gatherer. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, with Rev. Donald Henderson officiating.
