  ROBERT S. SMITH
  
    Robert S. Smith, 74, of 314 Cumberland Street, Berlin, died
  December 19, 1983 at Somerset Community Hospital.
    Born September 7, 1909 in Northhampton Twp., he was a son of
  Charles H. and Flora (Coughenour) Smith.  He was preceded in death by
  parents; two brothers, Merle and Paul; and a sister, Mrs. Hazel
  Crites.  He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Raupach and
  these children, Mrs. Elaine Stanhope, Albuquerque, New Mexico;
  Stanley and Mrs. Cliff (Kay) Vinson, both of Berlin; seven
  grandchildren and five step grandchildren.
    He was the brother of Ray of Berlin; Steward of Augusta, Georgia;
  Dale of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Annie Webreck and Mrs. Cloyce (Marian)
  Coughenour, both of Glencoe; Mrs. Orlene Raupaugh of Berlin and Mrs.
  Betty Bittner of Pittsburgh.
    His death ended a marriage union of 46 years.
    He retired in 1977 from PennDOT where he was a foreman.
    He served in First Medical Detachment US Army from 1929-1936.  He
  was a member of the Glencoe United Church of Christ; Pioneers Club of
  Carlisle; Berlin Volunteer Fire Department; Somerset Co., Fireman
  Assoc.; and the Disabled American Veterans.
    Friends were received Tuesday evening and will be received 2-4 and
  7-9 Wednesday at the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home where services will
  be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. Wm. N. Hay officiating.
  Interment, Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
