    Thomas W. Smith, 77, New Baltimore, died Dec. 11, 1989 at Somerset
  Hospital.  Born July 13, 1912, in Allegheny Township, son of the late
  Marcellus and Alice (Suhrie) Smith.  Preceded in death by two brothers
  and three sisters.  Survived by wife of 52 years, the former Thelma L.
  Shaffer, and these children: Thomas E. married to former Janet Perdew,
  Everett RD 1; Harold "Ed" married to former M. Jane Dibert, Bedford;
  Norma J., wife of Donald Lynch, New Baltimore; Robert, married to
  former Maxine McKinley, Berlin; Joseph, married to former Cathy
  Leister, Fairhope RD 1; Shirley M., wife of Melvin Bruck, Berlin RD
  3; Beverly J., wife of Richard Oehling, Somerset.  Fifteen
  grandchildren.  Brother of Mrs. Lorreta Cromer, Wilkinsburg; Bernard,
  New Baltimore; and Mrs. Mary Alice Lohr, Central City.  Heavy
  equipment operator, Local No. 66 Operating Engineers, Pittsburgh. 
  Past president of New Baltimore Sportsman Club.  Member of St. John
  the Baptist Catholic Church, New Baltimore, where Mass of Christian
  Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Barry
  Baroni.  Interment, church cemetery.  Friends received from 2-4 and
  7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mickle-Geisle Funeral Home, Schellsburg, where
  wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
