Born in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late Walter and Mary Catherine (Atkinson). He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Mankamyer) Smith; son, John Smith of Mt. Airy, Md.; sisters: Gladys Winterstein and Anna Mae Winner, both of Cumberland; Virginia Shoemaker, Florida; Mary Jane Dom, Hagerstown; Betty Warnick and Lilly Rebecca Failinger, both of Baltimore; brothers: John H. and Joseph Smith, both of Florida; Franklin Smith, Baltimore; grandchildren: Wayne Smith, Pleasant Valley, Me.; Heather Smith, Mt. Airy; and two great grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a retired auto worker from the General Motors plant on Brauning Highway. He was a wounded veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the Meyersdale American Legion and 40 and 8. Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, Westminster. Interment, Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
