Smith Jr., 61, of Arcadia, Fla., formerly of Meyersdale, died Aug. 19, 1975 in the Army Hospital in Tampa, Fla. Born in Meyersdale Feb. 6, 1914, he was a son of the late William F. and Pearl (Wiland) Smith and was a grandson of the J. M. Wilands. Surviving are his wife, Jennifer, formerly of Mortimer Berks, England; and a son, Ronald Scott Smith; both of Arcadia, Fla.; and a sister, Betty Smith Day of Silver Spring, Md. Capt. Smith served with the Corps of Army Engineers and during World War II saw service in both Germany and Japan. He was awarded two purple hearts and the Croix de Guerre. Funeral service was held Aug. 13, in Acadia, Fla. His body was flown by the U.S. Army to National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., for burial. Meyersdale Republic, August 28, 1975 [S2219]
