Ernest was born May 19, 1916, in Shanksville, and was the oldest living son of Roscoe and Ada (Mary) Miller Snyder. In 1946, he married Mary Louise McNelly of Somerset. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Las Vegas. His wife preceded him in death in 1993. Also preceding him in death were a son Lowell Snyder, his brothers Herbert, Vernon, Hillis, Willard, Delbert, Edgar, Roscoe; and sisters Ida, Ruth and Irma. Due to ill health he moved to Tonasket in 2004 to live with family. Ernest is survived by a son Ernest P. Snyder and "son in heart" John (J.J.) P.Benavidez Jr., both of Tonasket, Wash., his daughter Teresa Garstecki of Stahlstown, and step-daughter Nancy Berkey of Denver, Colo. Also surviving him are 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. He was raised on the Snyder farm outside of Shanksville where he graduated high school. He served in the U.S. Army in 1934 and was honorably discharged. Ernie had a multitude of rich and varied life experiences and occupations. He was a member of the Carpenter's of Western Pa. and worked for various companies throughout the country on heavy construction (nuclear power plants.) A private family service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, at the Tonasket Cemetery.
